A Mission to Hengam Island

Iran is a vast country with heterogeneity distribution of specialized medical care.
Following identifying a family affected with FAP from a village in Qeshm Island in southern part of Iran, we decided to visit the village and setup workshops and counselling sessions followed by sample obtaining for DNA testing from 7 out of 22 individuals tested positive and were referred to endoscopy for further evaluations.
Fortunately, none of the carriers where found with adenocarcinoma higher than stage I, and all were scheduled for surgery at Imam Khomeini Hospital in Tehran.
