A bit of History

In 2015, cancer genetic specialist Dr Massih Bahar joined Imam Khomeini Hospital, Tehran, Colorectal Multi-Disciplinary Tumor Board. Series of cases with multiple cancers and family histories impelled the MDT to initiate Polyposis/Family Cancer Clinic in Colon and Rectal Surgery ward.

Patients were selected from Multi-Disciplinary Tumor Boards in three hospitals of Tehran:

| Imam Khomeini Hospital – Colorectal Tumor Board


| Imam Hossein Hospital – Surgery Tumor Board and Oncology/gynecology clinic


| Cancer Institute – Breast Cancer Tumor Board



In 2019, Dr Massih Bahar visited St Mark’s Hospital and Polyposis Registry – the oldest and second largest polyposis registry in the world – for a clinical fellowship a period vital to conception, organizational development and technical expertise in managing Polyposis/Familial cancer registry.

FamCan institute was founded in 2020 by Dr Massih Bahar from proceedings of registration of a few hundred families at risk of hereditary cancers.
